McSteamy McBroken: Penile Fracture on Grey's Anatomy, Can that really happen

ABC’s GREY’S ANATOMY featured Eric Dane, Dr. Marc Sloane suffering a “penile fracture” last week.

There are no bones in the penis!  A fracture refers to a crack or tear in the corpora cavernosum (erectile body of the penis).  Sometimes a small blood vessel causes swelling of the penis after sex.  Some men say they heard a pop or crack and then they lost there erection.  If there is no swelling there may be a plaque or scar that forms later.  This is called peyronie’s disease. There are medical and surgical treatments for the curvature.  Penile fracture often requires surgery to evacuate the blood and then repair the tear in the erectile body wall.  Most patient recover and may still have good erections if the problem is addressed quickly.  If not medication, injections, vacuum devices or insertion of a penile prosthesis can be performed.  This is a sensitive subject but urologist are here to help.  If it can happen to McSteamy it can happen to you!  Avoid positions where sudden movements could snap your penis!  It sounds obvious but people but pleasure over safety sometimes.  Be careful!
